The most expensive tournament in World Poker Tour history will be played at the WPT National Philippines in January 2016. The tournament will have a buy-in of $200,000 and, according to WPT.com, some of the biggest names in poker have already confirmed that they will be taking part.

"International poker pros Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Andrew Robl, Feder Holz, Sam Trickett, Andrew Pantling, Vivek Rajkumar, Andrew Timothy, and Daniel "Jungleman" Cates will join the aforementioned 12 confirmed high-profile Asian businessmen, including Malaysian poker players and businessmen, Richard Yong and Paul Phua, as well as Cali Group CEO, Lei Tim Meng."

WPT.com also reported that the winner of the tournament will take home more than just money...

"In addition to the lion's share of the prize pool, the champion of this event will also earn a luxurious 14k Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard. Hand-crafted and specifically designed for the Triton SHR Series - Cali Cup, this Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard is the perfect award for the champion to celebrate their legacy and victory in this historic event for decades to come."

What a phenomenal tournament this sounds. I cannot believe that anyone would pay $200,000 just to enter a poker tournament. I look forward to watching this when it comes on TV

Those guys used to play cash games for millions of dollars on a regular basis. So a $200k tourney should come as no surprise. Actually i expect a 1 million dollar buy-in tourney not to far down the road.

you had 2 of them... if you remember WSOP big one for one drop in 2012 was 1m$ buy in, also in 2014 was 1m$ buy in, so expect this year to be 1m$ buy in Blink and I think if there will be one this year that will breake all records Big Smile

This may be a record buy in for the WPT but I am sure most of these players have paid more to enter other tournies.....the one drop tournie was a $1 million buy in and I am sure there have been others as well......though it would be a great tournament to watch.

I just wanted $ 200k in my account Sad But as said, this buy-in is "cheap" for the pros
